A Little Bit About: Google Chrome OS

Google dan Microsoft tidak henti-hentinya bersaing untuk menjadi yang terbaik di dunia IT. Google yang terkenal dengan search engine-nya ingin memiliki OS seperti Windows,begitupula Microsoft yang terkenal dengan OS-nya ingin mempunyai search engine canggih seperti Google.Sebelumnya,Google telah merilis OS Android,sistem operasi mobile ini disebut-sebut juga akan menjadi pesaing hebat Windows Mobile-nya Microsoft.Sedangkan Microsoft,sudah membuat pesaing seacrh engine Google dengan diluncurkanya Bing.

Google sendiri baru saja mengumumkan akan merilis project terbaru mereka yang masih kelanjutan dari proyek browser mereka “Chrome” yang telah digunakan oleh lebih dari 30 juta orang diseluruh dunia.Proyek tersebut adalah sebuah open source operating system (OS) yang juga bernama “Chrome”.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Dengan adanya 2 OS berbeda yang telah dirilis,kekhawatiran akan terjadinya overlaping antara 2 OS tersebut bisa saja terjadi.Namun,Google ternyata telah membuat rencana berbeda untuk kedua OS ini.Bagi mereka,Android merupakan OS yang digunakan dari platform mobile ke netbook.Sedangkan Chrome OS sengaja diciptakan untuk netbook kecil namun akan mempunyai kekuatan seperti computer desktop.

Google pun menjamin sistem keamanan Chrome OS akan aman dari virus dan malware.Tidak seperti Windows yang terkadang memiliki celah keamanan dimana-mana.Intinya,Google akan berusaha menciptakan OS yang aman,cepat dan user friendly sebagaimana yang diinginkan banyak orang.

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. Saat ini Google telah berhasil menggaet beberapa vendor komputer, software dan prosesor.Beberapa di antaranya adalah Acer, Adobe, Asus, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, dan Texas Instrument.Karena berbasis opensource,kemungkinan besar OS Chrome akan bisa diunduh secara gratis,layaknya web browser mereka.
